Designing Modular Micro-Apps for the Visit Lifecycle

As part of a telehealth platform replatforming effort, I led design efforts on two modular provider tools—Today’s Visit and the Patient Record micro-apps. These tools needed to serve different purposes across the full patient visit lifecycle, from pre-visit review to live care delivery to post-visit documentation. I worked across engineering and product to adapt these tools for reuse, improve data clarity, and deliver a responsive, modern experience in place of a fragmented legacy system.

One Design, Four Contexts

The challenge wasn’t just designing a patient record or a visit summary—it was designing a single modular system that could adapt across four contexts: before, during, after, and outside the visit. I inherited partially designed components and redesigned critical elements like Attachments, Medications, Conditions, and Allergies to support variable use cases across the care flow. This required a balance of data visibility, cognitive load, and structural flexibility.

Providers don’t think in screens, they think in patient moments. That’s what we designed for.

Impact

Clarity Through Modularity

My work helped modernize and unify the provider experience across the visit lifecycle—replacing outdated, fragmented interfaces with a single flexible, responsive system that could deliver the right information at the right time.
